Here, the sandy-loam soils and mountainous climate yield a wine with concentrated ripe red berries, a touch of eucalyptus and black pepper, robust tannins and smooth lengthy finish.

Catena Appellation Tupungato Chardonnay
Family vintners for over 100 years, the Catenas are recognized for their pioneering role in high-altitude viticulture in Argentina. Over two decades ago, Nicolás Catena Zapata selected the Tupungato appellation with its pebble-covered soils and extreme cool nights, to plant the family's Chardonnay vineyards. Tupungato lies between 4000 and 5000ft in the foothills of the Andes mountains. This Chardonnay is deeply aromatic with expressive citrus fruit aromas and rich mineral notes.
Catena Appellation Luján de Cuyo White Clay
Family vintners for over 100 years, the Catenas are recognized for ther pioneering role in high-altitude viticulture in Argentina. Luján de Cuyo Appellation is known for its clay-rich soils and cool nights. Deeply aromatic with expressive citrus and peach with a rich and mineral finish. Pairs well with vegetables, pasta and grilled white meats. This blend of Semillon and Chenin Blanc is Argentina’s century-old traditional white wine.

In the 1950´s, Don Domingo Catena began sourcing Malbec from the historic vineyards of Vista Flores. Domingo prized the region's Malbec for its dark colored and structured tannins.

Catena Alta Chardonnay
Catena Alta is an assemblage of historic rows within the Catena family State vineyards. The blend of these historic rows, like the combination of sounds that create a symphony, give us highly aromatic and elegant wine that speaks for the terroir and the vines that have been tended by the four generations of the Catena Family. "Alta" means high in Spanish. This makes reference to the high altitude vineyards from where the grapes are sourced, and to the high end wines that are produced with this special grapes. At almost 5,000 feet elevation in the Andean foothills, the Adrianna vineyard's calcareous soils and cool climate are the promised land of Chardonnay. The fruit from the Adrianna vineyard has a purity of flavors and a minerality that is particular to this vineyard and can not be found anywhere else in Mendoza. The nearby, gravel-covered Domingo Vineyard makes up 20% of the blend. Elevage: 14 months in French oak barrels.
Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon
Before the world recognized Catena’s Argentina as “malbec country”, the winery was known for its old-world style Cabernet Sauvignon born in the clay-soils of Agrelo. The family cherishes its historic Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in Agrelo and Tupungato, particularly for their ageability and classic flavors. Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Lot 3 of the La Pirámide vineyard, Lot 2 of the Domingo vineyard and Lot 2 of the Nicasia Vineyard. Catena Alta is an assemblage of historic rows within the Catena family Estate vineyards. The blend of these historic rows, like the marriage of sounds that create a symphony, yields a highly aromatic and elegant wine that speaks for the earth and the vines that have been tended by the Catenas for four generations. The Catena Alta wines can usually be drunk starting at three years after harvest and into the following one to two decades.

Nicola Catena planted his first Malbec vineyard in Mendoza in 1902. His grandson, Nicolás Catena, is known as the man who revolutionized Argentine wine and introduced high altitude Malbec to the world. The Historic Catena Zapata vineyards are planted with the Catena family’s proprietary selection of malbec plants: the Catena Cuttings. Catena Alta Malbec is sourced from Lot 18 of the Angélica vineyard, Lot 4 of the La Pirámide vineyard, Lot 1 of the Nicasia vineyard, Lot 9 of the Adrianna vineyard and Lot 6 of the Angélica Sur vineyard. Catena Alta is an assemblage of historic rows within the Catena family Estate vineyards. In 1898 the Marchigiano Nicola Catena arrived in Argentina with his ancestral tradition of preserving wines by its own tannins, matured in clay pots. "La Marchigiana" honors the natural and sulfite-free homemade wines legacy with this very limited production of Criolla Chica, Bonarda, Chardonnay, Moscatel and Malbec, fermented and aged in clay pots where full body and longevity are gained through long-term skin contact. A naked wine in which grape and terroir speak.

The combination of intense sunlight and cool nights yields an elegant, mineral, slightly spicy Malbec with a deep texture and flavors.
